Desert Island Flicks – Carol Morley
Back in September, Encounters welcomed the amazing Carol Morley to the Watershed to discuss her cinematic influences in a very special Desert Island Flicks event. This fascinating interview is now available to view in its entirety below!
As part of Encounters 21, rising-star Carol Morley treated us with a unique insight into the works that have inspired her writing and directing. Following on from her acclaimed documentaries The Alcohol Years (2000) and Dreams of a Life (2011), Morley released her most well received film to-date, The Falling, earlier this year. In his Observer review, Mark Kermode concluded that with this latest offering Morley had now “joined the ranks of Britain’s best filmmakers”. With the recent publication of her semi-autobiographical novel, 7 Miles Out, Morley is fast emerging as one of the country’s most exciting and daring talents. In this exclusive and insightful interview, she discusses the films that have inspired her work the most, alongside a number of clips from her own varied body of work.
With thanks to Watershed for filming and putting together this footage for us.
