In Georgia, between 1950s and 1980s, a new wave of innovative filmmakers emerged, leading to the golden age of Georgian cinema. Among them, a Georgian film director, Giorgi Shengelaia is an exceptional author, known for this masterpieces like; Phirosmani (1969) and for the Silver Bear winner film, The Journey of a Young Composer (1984). The Encounters Film Festival will present newly restored version of his one of the first short films, Alaverdoba (1962).
Semi-documentary short film of the renowned Georgian film director, Giorgi Shengelaia. The film story follows the Alaverdoba festival in east Georgia. Protagonist Guram goes there in order to see firsthand the ancient Georgian religious feast Alaverdoba.
