Widening the Lens – Developing New Talent 2019

Encounters Festival are excited to announce that we will be running our Widening the Lens scheme again in 2019! This year the scheme will be supported by the ScreenSkills Film Skills Fund with contributions from UK film productions.

Applications are sought from filmmakers at the entry stages of their career, looking for guidance on how to progress their ambitions.

Designed to remove barriers and increase opportunities for under-represented filmmakers, Widening the Lens 2019 will be delivered across three days in Bristol and will consist of masterclasses, round table discussions, workshops and film screenings.

Who is the scheme for?

UK based filmmakers who self-identify themselves as from an underrepresented group, as outlined by the BFI Diversity Guidelines, these include –

  • Filmmakers from a BAME background
  • Filmmakers with disabilities
  • LGBTQI+ Filmmakers
  • Female Filmmakers
  • Individuals from less advantaged socio-economic backgrounds

Participants will take part in round table discussions, masterclasses, workshops and screenings as part of this scheme.
